At Speech Language Technologies, we specialize in the evaluation and treatment of pediatric and adult speech, language, and swallow disorders in Boca Raton, FL and surrounding communities. We are also excited to be able to offer services via teletherapy. We are committed to helping individuals gain communication skills through accessing augmentative alternative communication devices. We provide high-quality and evidence-based therapies for clients who are experiencing communication and/or swallowing challenges that result from Cerebral Palsy, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Rett Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, Autism Spectrum Disorder, stroke, brain injuries, or other progressive neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease.
All sessions are tailored to meet the client’s needs. Typically, therapy sessions take place in the client's home and range from 45 minutes to an hour. We encourage family members, significant others, and caregivers to participate in therapy to be trained and serve as communication partners. We spend time getting to know our patients by gaining a thorough understanding of personal goals, answering questions, and discussing our plan to ensure our clients are confident in the process and investment.
Treatment in a client's natural/home environment allows for increased carryover of skills by learning and using skills where they will be used. In-home therapy also provides opportunities for family and caregivers to participate and get their questions answered.
Training and Support
For clients who use internet-based AAC devices (like the Tobii Dynavox), Andrea offers remote connections to their device to provide customization. This may be in the form of personalizing a page (i.e. adding pictures of the client and/or family) or building pages within the devices language system. Andrea also provides training for parents or caregivers on how to use the device while being remote.
Andrea offers all-day and half-day trainings for school district personnel that work with or teach students with complex communication needs. For example, Andrea provides training for teachers and paraprofessionals that work with girls with Rett Syndrome in the form of a seminar and hands on training. Staff learns how to operate the students' device, model language skills using the device, incorporate low tech AAC, encourage interaction with the student and classmates, and increase classroom interaction.
An initial evaluation includes a patient and caregiver interviews, a review of any recent medical records, standardized testing when necessary, and an informal communication assessment. We spend time getting to know our patients to gain a thorough understanding of personal goals, to answer questions, and discuss our plan.
AAC device trail evaluations differ from standard speech, language, and evaluations. AAC device trials take 1-2 hours and include trialing appropriate devices, as well as explanation and support with the funding process to obtain a device.
Speech-Language Technologies offers complimentary phone consultations prior to scheduling an evaluation. We are providers for Medicaid and Medicare Part B. For those who are not covered under Medicaid or Medicare, we accept private payment and will gladly provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
